Site Characterization

Site characterization (also referred to as site assessment) is an important stage following a release of material to the environment. During site characterization, the investigator determines critical details about the subsurface and areas surrounding the release. Often, site characterization includes installation of soil borings/monitoring wells, sample collection, receptor surveys and site history research.

By using a host of investigative techniques an investigator can determine the vertical and horizontal extent of impact, direction of groundwater flow, and information about potential receptors. Simon & Associates, Inc. uses our experienced technical and professional staff to conduct accurate and efficient conduct site characterizations for our clients throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region.
